In Hinduism and Buddhism, the term mala stands for a prayer chain that is comparable to a Catholic rosary and is worn on both the neck and the wrist. Prayer chains can differ in size and length, but always consist of 108 individual pearls.

Malas are used in mantra chanting. Whether you count the chants or use them as an aid to focus is up to you.

Bodhi Chitta Mala consists of the seeds of a Bodhi fruit that grows on a Bodhi tree. Bodhi means awakening, enlightenment and knowledge in Sanskrit. Since Siddhartha Gutama received his enlightenment and became "Buddha" under the Bodhi tree, the Bodhi tree has been regarded as one of the sacred symbols of Buddhism.
